Context & challenges

Underground mines represent the most demanding environments in the extractive industry. Hundreds or thousands of metres below surface, teams work under high pressure, temperature, and humidity, with the potential presence of hazardous gases (methane, CO, H₂S) and in galleries with fragile geomechanics. Any failure of a safety system can have catastrophic, irreversible consequences.

MINEFECT understands that reliability is not optional in this context — it is an absolute requirement. We rigorously select ATEX-certified (or equivalent) equipment, consumables, and spare parts, and ensure critical stock availability for components that tolerate zero supply interruption.

Key sector challenges

The constraints we help you overcome

Ventilation and air quality

Underground ventilation is the primary safety system of any mine. Main and auxiliary fans, flexible and rigid ducting must operate continuously. A ventilation failure can trigger immediate mine evacuation and halt all production while repairs are underway.

Ground support and geomechanics

Gallery stability depends directly on ground support quality: rock bolts, shotcrete, steel arches, and mesh. Under-dimensioned or geologically mismatched materials can trigger collapses with dramatic safety and operational consequences.

Critical system reliability

Dewatering pumps, emergency lighting, communication systems, and gas detectors must operate at 100% in all circumstances. Parts and consumable availability for these systems is non-negotiable — a stockout can immobilise the entire mine.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions from our clients

We establish a supply continuity plan with each client that identifies critical parts requiring a guaranteed minimum stock. For components with no acceptable alternative, we maintain a dedicated warehouse stock with a delivery commitment of 24 to 48 hours to major African hubs. This mechanism is contractually formalised to ensure operational safety.

For wet underground environments, we recommend greases and oils with excellent anti-corrosion and anti-washout properties (EP extreme-pressure additives resistant to water). Lithium complex or calcium-sulfonate greases are particularly well-suited. For hydraulic systems, HLP-D hydrolysis-resistant fluids significantly extend component service life in high-moisture conditions.

Rock bolt selection depends on the geotechnical characteristics of your rock mass (RQD, compressive strength, fracturing, and water presence). Mechanical expansion bolts suit competent rock; resin-grouted bolts (cartridge or injected) are preferred for fractured or water-bearing rock; cable bolts are recommended for large spans or high stress zones. Our technical team can assist in selection based on the geomechanical data from your site.

Electrical and electronic equipment destined for explosive atmosphere zones (ATEX, MSHA, or local equivalents) is sourced from manufacturers holding the required certifications. Technical datasheets and conformity certificates are available on request. For African markets, we also ensure compliance with applicable local standards for each country of operation.

Yes, we have an emergency ordering service for critical situations. Depending on the part and site location, we mobilise the fastest available logistics resources (express air freight, local courier) and coordinate directly with your maintenance team. This service is available 24/7 for clients under priority supply contracts.
